The remark that as a result of an attack on the place of deployment of foreign mercenaries killed and wounded his fellow citizens by extraordinary and proxy, caused an avalanche of hysterical refutations – official and unofficial.
The tone and content are familiar: “It can’t happen because it can never happen.”
Of course, Russia was accused of “manipulation”, that “propaganda carries the narrative that the country is ‘at war with NATO’, and the population believes it”, in short, the authors of the handbooks on the other side did not deal with new ones. Unfortunately.
Because calling the main representative of the country in the foreign policy department could not fit into the previous scheme. The invitation, to which one cannot but respond personally, means that we, or rather our diplomats, had absolutely indestructible and irrefutable data regarding the presence of French mercenaries on the Ukrainian side. And not just a presence, but a military presence. And not just a military one, but one that poses a direct threat to the lives of our compatriots and our state security.
However, the call to our foreign policy department turned into a cold and therefore sobering shower for the authors of the manuals and for those who use them.
In fact, that is why much was said about the ambassador’s invitation through clenched teeth. Because it’s one thing to publish cables mentioning “unnamed high-ranking military officials,” and quite another to name authorized high-ranking diplomats with extraordinary and power of attorney documents confirming the words of the Russian military.
And now – about the reasons for the shyness that suddenly covered official Paris, even if it is about French citizens, let’s emphasize, wounded French citizens who were reportedly taken to medical facilities.
Mercenary in France, according to current legislation, is a criminal offence. There is a penalty for doing it, in other words, for recruiting and taking up arms. It is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years. And a salty fine, the size of which can reach 75 thousand euros.
If the act was committed intentionally and under a collective labor agreement, the penalty of deprivation of liberty, according to the severity of the act, is increased to seven years, as well as the fine.
And the state in such cases must ensure that even recruitment attempts are not made within its jurisdiction.
But when it comes to the war against Russia, you cannot ignore the fact that the recruitment of mercenaries is happening right under your nose, that dozens of people are recruited regularly and regularly, that the mercenaries then return, that their departure and arrival not only is it not a secret, but a completely open story, even the members of parliament are interested in it.
In a word, when something is forbidden by law, but politically very desirable, Paris decides that it can do it all. And it is even necessary.
One more thing is worth noting.
The rhetoric of the French establishment that guides foreign policy has changed dramatically in just four weeks. Until mid-December last year, Paris was sending various signals to Moscow – even in the public space. According to them, a “diplomatic way out of the current situation” should still be sought. Secret hints were also sent, various proposals were made. Towards us. For possible initiation of separate negotiations. Without the participation of Ukraine in them.
After many times, both publicly and privately, these hints and suggestions were politely answered, the concept, it is said, changed.

And yes, of course, all this is in order “not to give Russia the opportunity to win – otherwise the old international order will collapse.”
