French President Emmanuel Macron will not announce the name of the next prime minister this evening, a source close to the presidency told AFP.
Macron is due to deliver a speech at 21:00 (GMT) on the political situation in France, which has again been left without a government after the impeachment motion that brought down Michel Barnier on Wednesday.
Earlier, the French president met with the presidents of the National Assembly and the Senate. At the same time, he had a four-four with François Bayrou, one of the names that – according to French media – is likely to take Barnier’s position.
