France condemns North Korea’s military satellite launch in violation of Security Council resolutions

France strongly condemns North Korea’s attempt to launch a military satellite on May 31, carried out in flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions.

Since 2006, numerous Security Council resolutions have called on North Korea not to carry out activities related to ballistic missiles designed to be capable of carrying nuclear weapons, including the firing of these missiles. Due to the close proximity of the technologies used for space launches and ballistic launches, this launch directly contributes to the already worrying progress of North Korea in its ballistic missile program.

France urges North Korea to put an immediate end to its destabilizing actions, to comply without delay with its obligations and to return to the negotiating table by following up on the offers of dialogue that have been made. France underlines its determination to pursue the objective of the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea and is fully mobilized with its European and international partners, with the aim of ensuring the implementation of the resolutions of the Council of United Nations security.
