Framework Laptop 16: Pricing, Features, and GPU Upgradeability Revealed

Framework has announced that the Laptop 16 will cost at least 1579 euros and that the first copies will be delivered in the fourth quarter of this year. The product is now available for pre-order. The 16″ laptop gets an upgradeable GPU; initially an RX 7700S module.

The Laptop 16 is Framework’s first 16″ laptop and also his first laptop whose GPU can be upgraded separately. The maker announced the laptop in March, but now provides more details. The DIY version must cost 1579 euros and the pre -built variant including OS 1919 euros.For this amount, buyers get a Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU.The laptop is also for sale with Ryzen 9 7940HS.

Like the previous Framework laptops, the modular laptop has Expansion Cards, for example to provide the laptop with different USB or HDMI ports, or to give the laptop a microSD card reader. The Laptop 16 has six of these Expansion Card slots. New to the Laptop 16 is the Expansion Bay, with which the laptop can be equipped with a separate GPU. For the time being, the device can only be equipped with an AMD Radeon RX 7700S Graphics Module, for 450 euros. Those who prefer a light laptop can also purchase an Expansion Bay Shell. Framework says that it has taken into account extra space for future GPUs with other form factors when designing the Graphics Module.

Furthermore, the laptop can be configured with two slots of 8 to 32 GB DDR5-5600 memory, for a total of 8 to 64 GB memory. In addition, up to two NVMe sticks can be installed. Buyers can choose from different keyboards with and without RGB lighting, and can choose whether they want a numpad or not.

The Laptop 16’s screen has a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, supports Freesync, and has a refresh rate of 165Hz and a maximum brightness of 500cd/m². The screen supports the full DCI-P3 color spectrum and has a contrast of 1500:1. The laptop has an 85Wh battery, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, four speakers, a 1080p webcam and a fingerprint scanner that is compatible with Windows and Linux. Framework delivers to the Netherlands, but not yet to Belgium.
