FPI Members Are Called Terrorists Suspected, This Is the Response of FPI Lawyers

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The attorney for the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Aziz Yanuar, admitted that he was confused about the police’s claims FPI members which became suspected terrorist of Makassar, South Sulawesi.

He considered that the police should no longer link the suspected terrorists to FPI because FPI’s mass organizations have been dissolved by the government.

He was also surprised by the continued association of the FPI name with various things because their Ormas had been declared non-existent because the government had dissolved them.

“I do not know (yes what kind of response). Because there is no FPI anymore. So we are confused. It has been disbanded, it is still being complicated and complicated,” said Aziz as quoted from Tribunnews.com, Thursday (4/2/2021).

He then questioned the government’s stance that continued to pressure FPI but was permissive towards organizations in which there were many corruptors.

“The organizations that still exist and many corruptors are produced that to the extent that related to humanitarian assistance (bansos) is also harassed, but it’s safe to be safe, not disbanded, not blocked by the surroundings and terrorized. It’s safe, anyway,” said Aziz.

“In fact, this corruption is real and the resulting effects are real. Damaging to all lines of damage and acute damage. This should be the focus,” he continued.

Previously, Karo Penmas, Public Relations of the National Police, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono, said that 19 terrorist suspects from the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) Makassar group were members of the FPI.

The terrorist suspects have been picked up by the Police Special Detachment 88 Team at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Thursday (4/2/2021) this afternoon.

“All are involved or become members of the FPI in Makassar. They are very active in FPI activities in Makassar,” said Rusdi at a press conference at Soetta Airport, Tangerang, Banten.

According to him, this terrorist group from Makassar has various plans that could disrupt the stability and security and order of society. This group usually carries out suicide bombings.

Rusdi said that one of the 19 terrorist suspects from the Makassar group was the son of the married couple Rullie Rian Zeke and Ulfah Handayani. They are the suicide bombers at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Jolo Island, Southern Philippines.

“This group has the mentality to carry out suicide bomb activities,” said Rusdi.
