Agriculture Minister once again at the diving station
St. Pölten (OTS) – “The latest finding by the Administrative Court is causing serious problems for the farmers,” said the club chairman of the Lower Austrian FPÖ LAbg. Mag. Reinhard Teufel. The Administrative Court ruled that storing silo bales in the wild was not permitted. “This is absolutely impractical and downright absurd,” says Teufel.
So-called silo bales, i.e. fodder wrapped in foil, are often stored in meadows throughout Austria. These are primarily grass or corn. This is now virtually prohibited by the Administrative Court’s ruling, criticized Teufel. This also means that straw bales are no longer allowed to be stored in fields. “Another bureaucratic disaster for the agricultural region of Lower Austria and the Lower Austrian farmers,” said Teufel, who once again accused the responsible ÖVP agriculture minister of not doing enough to support the farmers. “I have the impression that Norbert Totschnig is sleeping in the pendulum clock,” says Teufel.
The background to the finding is a complaint from “environmentalists” who were offended by the fact that a farmer did not store his silo bales on his farm, but in a meadow outside the settlement area. According to the court, this is not permissible because the aim is to prevent the limited resource of land from being used up through “unreflective economic use”.
“Where and how exactly land is used when a farmer stores agricultural products on agricultural land is only revealed to ignorant courts and confused ‘environmentalists’,” Teufel showed incomprehension for this ruling and called on Totschnig to decriminalize farmers.
“I urgently call on Agriculture Minister Totschnig to correct this nonsense and to change the legal requirements so that the common practice of storage in open spaces will continue to be possible in the future,” said Teufel.
