Foxconn will build electric vehicle production lines in the United States and Thailand as early as next year. If all goes as planned, the first batches of cars should come out as early as 2023. The goal of this strategy is to diversify the company’s activities in the face of a smartphone market slowing year after year.
According to rumors raised by Nikkei Asia, several American states are currently in discussions with the industrialist, and more particularly Wisconsin. These factories are expected to manufacture vehicles for local companies, such as the start-up Fisker. In Thailand, Foxconn is targeting the local market as well as the Southeast Asian market. Foxconn chairman Young Liu explained that this site alone is expected to produce between 150,000 to 200,000 electric vehicles per year. Apart from the United States and Thailand, Foxconn is negotiating to set up sites in Europe.
On another note and since it’s the time of year that wants that, Foxconn will of course take care of the production of the next iPhone at the end of the month in its Chinese factories. The phone will also be assembled by Pegatron and Luxshare Precision Industry.
