Last week, TV stations like MSNBC, CBS, ABC and CNBC did the same when President Trump during a press conference accused the Democrats of fraud.
The conservative Fox News has long been regarded as pro-Trump, especially the opinion-forming programs of right-wing commentators like Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson. Over the past week, however, Fox News has been increasingly critical of Trump, who has repeatedly claimed since the election that the Democrats committed fraud without providing any evidence.
McConnell and Barr supporters rally behind Trump
While Biden’s gains are generally accepted in the US and beyond, there are still high-ranking Republicans who support the president in his allegations of fraud. On Monday, Mitch McConnell, leader of the Republican majority in the Senate, said Trump is “one hundred percent entitled” to question the election results. “Our institutions are built for this: if someone has concerns about the fairness of the process, it can be investigated. Ultimately, a conclusion will be reached.”
Bill Barr, the US Attorney General and a staunch ally of the president, in an internal memo Monday urged his own federal prosecutors to investigate “serious allegations of election fraud.” However, he did not mention any concrete examples.
