A fourth person died Tuesday of the consequences of the mysterious corona virus in China, reports the BBC.
The victim is an 89-year-old man from Wuhan, the East Chinese metropolis that is at the epicenter of the outbreak.
The Chinese National Health Commission confirmed on Monday that the virus is transmissible from person to person. Certainly two new cases of infection in the Chinese province of Guangdong are due to this.
More than two hundred new cases of infection have since been reported, including in large cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. At least fifteen medical workers in Wuhan have also been infected with the virus; the situation of one of them is critical.
All new cases of infection are kept in quarantine during treatment. Since the virus broke out in December, dozens of people have been cured.
In addition to China, two infections have been reported in Thailand, one in Japan and one in South Korea. All those affected have recently been to Wuhan. Australia has announced that it will screen passengers arriving from China at airports.
