Dead line: Customers from all over Switzerland reported malfunctions in the Swisscom network on Tuesday.
Source: all disturbances (May 26, 2020, 12.30 p.m.)
After three hours of interruption, the fourth Swisscom network malfunction was remedied this Tuesday afternoon at 2:55 p.m. Until now, however, it was unclear what caused the disturbance.
In the night of May 26, complications apparently occurred in connection with renovation work on a mobile radio system. When migrating customers to new systems, “an unexpected software behavior of network devices” led to an overload in mobile telephony, said Swisscom media spokeswoman Sabrina Hubacher.
The complexity of this disruption was very high, explains Hubacher the three-hour impairment of the mobile and fixed network. “We worked with the involvement of international suppliers with the highest priority on the analysis, localization and correction of the error.” One is extremely sorry for the disturbance.
Swisscom leaders must apply to the National Council Commission
Yesterday’s breakdown marked the fourth for Swisscom this year. Now there are obviously consequences. The Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) wants to investigate the Swisscom breakdown series. The responsible National Council commission is now citing the top of the telecom provider for a hearing. “We expect Swisscom to answer questions and create transparency about the causes of this breakdown series,” said National Councilor Jon Pult (SP / GR), Commission Vice President on Radio SRF’s “This Morning” program.
Interruptions had already occurred in January this year. In mid-February there were two interruptions within a few days. In the first two cases, the emergency numbers were no longer available. Also on Tuesday, according to the information in the “Alert Swiss” app from the Federal Office for Civil Protection, at least in some cantons, the emergency numbers 112, 117, 118, 144 were no longer accessible via mobile phones. However, Swisscom stated in a message that emergency numbers were not affected by the disruption.
