The Lely Orbiter was put into use on Friday at the fourth dairy farm in the Netherlands. This makes Reijer Rotgans in Hippolytushoef in North Holland the fourth farmer to process milk on his own farm with Lely’s automatic dairy processing system.

Rotgans now brings the dairy directly from the farm to the supermarket and consumer under the ‘My Milk’ label. In this way, the farmer increases the value of his milk and responds to the need of a growing group of consumers for locally produced products.
For him, innovation is the key to a future-proof company. ‘Being a farmer is more than just milking cows. You have to be enterprising. There is more to be gained from the sector. Nowadays growth is no longer about expansion, but mainly about broadening the activities.’
More than a thousand supermarkets
Rotgans finds that broadening in the Orbiter. The farmers who are affiliated with My Milk process the milk themselves within 24 hours in their yard. The dairy is now available ‘directly from the farm’ in more than a thousand supermarkets throughout the Netherlands.
In the coming period, Lely will further expand the distribution and number of affiliated dairy farmers. After the introduction of cream and semi-skimmed Jersey milk with naturally 30 percent more protein, Lely also expects to further expand the production options of the Orbiter in the short term, so that dairy farmers can expand their product range.
