General information

In the context of new environmental normalities resulting from global climate change, this series of talks was proposed – online, mediated by a videoconferencing platform – in order to highlight the current environmental context and changing trends that lead inexorably to a path of planning and new ways of approaching the territory.

Through a cycle of 6 meetings, one on the last Thursday of each month, between June and November, national specialists are invited to take part in the cycle as exhibitors.

At this fourth meeting, Sebastián Andrés Crespo, a researcher at IANIGLA-CONICET, with a PhD in Applied Sciences, a PhD candidate in Social Sciences and an agricultural engineer, will speak. Using isotopic determinations, he analyzes the water contribution of glacial and periglacial environments in the central Andes of Argentina and Chile. He is currently conducting research related to water security and the social relevance of the periglacial contribution in the face of global change scenarios in the Putaendo Valley, Chile. He is also finalizing the isotopic characterization of the first complete local meteoric water line from precipitation in the central Andes and beginning the analysis of the transfer of isotopic signals from drinking water to hair, both in humans and animals.

He advised on the process of the Chilean Glacier Law as a representative of the scientific sector, on the statute (875) on cryosphere and glaciers of the first constitutional reform process in Chile in 2022 and on the bill that modifies the Chilean water code to prevent the establishment of private rights to use water on glaciers (No. 11,597-12).

He was a member of the Cryosphere group at COP25, a founding member of the Panel of Independent Researchers in Cryosphere Sciences (PIIC2) of Chile, a member of the provincial environmental council of Mendoza (2009-13) and of the Regional Committee on Climate Change (CORECC) of the Valparaíso region, Chile (2017-21). From 2018 to 2022 he was a researcher at the Center for Climate Science and Resilience (CR)2 and the Climate Action Center-PUCV, Chile (2020-22).

These activities are broadcast on the faculty’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@facultaddefilosofiayletras). Those interested in participating in the different meetings may do so by accessing the platform on the stipulated days and times.
