Tomorrow, Saturday, April 2, the application of the fourth dose of the vaccine against covid-19 will begin to the population over 70 years of age and with immunocompromise residing in Lima and Callao, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) announced today.

Alexis Holguín, general director of Strategic Public Health Interventions of the Minsa, added that the application of the fourth dose will continue to this age group in the regions of the country, as well as to health personnel from Monday the 4th or Tuesday the 5th. of April.

“Tomorrow (Saturday, April 2) we begin with the vaccination for people over 70 years of age and also for people with immunocompromise, in what is Lima and Callao. And between Monday (April 4) and Tuesday (April 5) we continue with what is at the country level, as well as to health personnel with a fourth dose,” he noted.

He clarified that this group of the population must have received the third dose more than 5 months ago in order to be inoculated with the fourth dose of the covid-19 vaccine.

He also said that adults over 70 years of age in Lima and Callao will be able to go to any vaccination center to receive their fourth dose, starting tomorrow, Saturday, April 2, as long as they have received the third dose 5 months ago.

He explained that the protocol approved by the Minsa indicates that this fourth dose is applied with the vaccine from the Pfizer or Moderna laboratories, since studies have shown that they are safe and effective.

He reported that Peru has a large batch of doses of the Moderna vaccine that has just arrived in Peru, and that they have a long shelf life.

“By timeline we already have to vaccinate (with the fourth dose of the covid-19 vaccine) older adults,” he said.
