Fourth dose of vaccine reduces mortality by 78%

“Among recipients of the fourth dose of the vaccine, there was a 78% reduction in the mortality rate from Covid-19compared to the group that was not vaccinated” with the booster, found research by Clalit, the main health provider among the four Israeli mutuals in charge of the vaccination.

The study, of preliminary type, was carried out by the Department of Community Medicine of Clalit together with two Israeli academic centers.

It was done between last January and February —with the variant omicron already as dominant—, and examines the mortality rates between the population that received the fourth vaccine (or second booster dose) and those that only received a third injection.

Given the expansion of the contagious omicron strain, Israel began vaccinating people over 60 years of age with the fourth dose in early January, and today there are more than 747,000 people who received this booster.

At this point, morbidity in the country is relatively low, but there is concern among health authorities because in recent weeks it has been slightly increasing.

Israel, with a population of some 9.4 million inhabitants, was leaving behind the wave of infections by omicron in mid-February, and opted for vaccination to deal with it.
