Fourteen tutors in five courses at the Isidro Parga Pondal in Oleiros Radio Coruña

Up to fourteen tutors have had the students of 2nd A of Primary at the Isidro Parga Pondal school in Santa Cruz, in Oleiros, in the last five years. Almost three tutors per year from 4th grade until March of this year, before the confinement. It is the complaint of parents who denounce that so much change has had a negative impact on children. They warn that starting this course, far from being solved, the situation has worsened in the guidance department.

Parents affirm that there are seven teachers who teach subjects in this class and some are tutors of other courses. Something they understand is contrary to the recommendation of the Covid protocol to try to minimize staff and faculty turnover.

Lucía López, spokesperson for the parents of the 25 students of the 2nd A of Primary of the Isidro Parga Pondal recalls that more caregivers would be needed: “there is only one caregiver for the whole center, shared, it is not assigned to any student, only when required in specific cases, but we consider that a caregiver is necessary for our classroom.”

They also criticize that the tutor of this class can only teach mathematics, Galician and Spanish language, since multilingual training prevails over tutorials. This teacher has to rotate through different courses teaching a subject in which it is necessary to master English. So much discontinuity in tutoring hinders and slows down processes such as identification, assessment and intervention of specific needs of students, say the families.

They ask the Ministry of Education that values the possibility of splitting the group, a stable tutoring, a space suitable to the needs of the students in the group and that allows individualized attention. They also demand furniture that allows the maintenance of a minimum distance between boys and girls.
