ANNOUNCEMENTS•
The assault on the Capitol, exactly two years ago yesterday, was commemorated in Washington. US President Joe Biden has awarded fourteen people with the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest civilian award.
They were awarded the medal for their efforts before, during, and after the January 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol. These include officers who tried to stop the assaults, election workers, and state and local officials.
Honored posthumously
Three officers were posthumously honored. One of them died during the assault, the other two committed suicide shortly after. The award also went to an officer who distracted rioters during the evacuation of MPs.
“History will remember your names for your bravery, bravery and commitment to your countrymen,” Biden said at the awards ceremony.
Two years ago, then-President Trump’s supporters attacked parliament. They tried to stop the ratification of Joe Biden’s election victory.
Recently, a House committee recommended that President Trump be impeached for his role that day. The Ministry of Justice has yet to decide on the matter.
