Fourteen people caught during lockdown parties at hotel: … (Inland)

Borgerhout / Deurne –

The Antwerp police caught a total of fourteen people during lockdown parties at the hotel last weekend. Those present did not wear face masks. In the two hotel rooms, the police found alcohol, drugs and laughing gas. They are summoned by the public prosecutor.

The district team of the East region found out that young people were looking for hotel rooms in the region to come together. “On Saturday evening, the police indeed established that several young people were gathering in two hotel rooms in Borgerhout. In one of those rooms, the police even counted 11 people who sat together in a limited space, without masks, ”said Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp police. “They brought drinks and music was played. On a table, the police found drugs ready to use. There was also a party in another room. ”

Fourteen people received an official report and are immediately summoned to appear before the public prosecutor. “The police found almost 7,000 euros at one hotel guest. Seven people received a GAS-PV because they were carrying nitrous oxide. In addition, three persons were arrested administratively for illegality or disturbance of public order. Four people were offered an immediate amicable settlement for drug possession, ”says Bruyns. Police also confiscated 13 bottles of nitrous oxide.

“Total disrespect”

Mayor Bart De Wever (N-VA) is angry with the facts. “It is also clear that some young people in our city are flagrantly flouting the corona measures that are necessary for our care and general well-being,” said De Wever, who also thanks the police for their efforts.

“The neighborhood work of the local police has therefore given numerous actions last weekend to those who show antisocial and dangerous behavior that shows a total lack of respect for our urban community. We will continue to monitor closely and take strict action in the coming weeks ”, says De Wever.
