Fourteen boat refugees rescued from the sea near Mallorca, three people missing

In the Mediterranean Sea, near the Spanish island of Mallorca, a Spanish rescue team and the crew of a sailboat rescued 14 boat people from the sea. Three people are still missing.

It was previously reported that 11 bodies had been found in the sea and three people had been rescued, but authorities say this is not true.

Emergency services found the migrants after helicopters and rescue boats were sent to Cabrera, a small island south of Mallorca. The rescue was launched after the crew of a sailboat saw several people in the sea.

These are migrants who tried to reach the Spanish islands or the mainland from North Africa. A growing number of migrants have attempted to cross the Mediterranean into Spain in recent weeks. The Coast Guard rescued 277 people in a day last week.

At least 1,000 people died this year while traveling by sea to Spanish territory. According to the International Organization for Migration, this year was the deadliest yet on the migration route to Spain.
