Shortly before Christmas, Lorenz Knöferl equalized for 1860 Munich in a 2-2 draw against Wehen Wiesbaden. The 17-year-old striker is one of a number of young talents who are taking their first steps in professional football with the Lions. In winter training, head coach Michael Köllner will now look at four new talents from his own forge.
U17 and U19 players on board
With captain Sascha Mölders, the Munich Lions have an absolute top veteran under contract, at whose side the young wild ones can always learn something. So also said Lorenz Knöferl, who needed exactly 32 minutes of action for his first professional goal. “The main focus of my work as a coach is on the development of players,” said 1860 coach Michael Köllner on the club’s website, pointing out that “not only those who have already established themselves in the professional squad”. With Mansour Ouro-Tagba (16) and Nathan Wicht (16) from the U17 as well as Anian Brönauer (18) and Valdrin Konjuhi (18) from the U19, the lion coach will look at four young talents again this winter.
Köllner knows the guys from the Munich talent factory who gave him a “very good impression of the NLZ training and the games with their teams”. Now the next steps should follow, in order to possibly soon follow in the equally delicate footsteps of a Knöferl. Sports manager Günther Gorenzel sees this as a trend-setting measure: “This interlocking is an important part of our identity.”
15 professionals from their own youth
Knöferl rose to the 1860 professionals last summer, and the Munich team moved five other talents from the NLZ up to the 3rd division. Including regular staff and returnees from the first team, TSV 1860 has a total of 15 players in the squad who come from the club’s own youth division. Only five of them (Tom Kretzschmar, Marco Mannhardt, Niklas Lang, György Székely, Ahanna Agbowo) are still waiting for their professional debut.
