Mariano Rivera was elected on January 22, 2019 to the Cooperstown Hall of Fame with 100% of the votes, becoming the first player in the Major Leagues to be unanimously elected.
Rivera received all 425 votes in the BBWAA election, the results of which were announced Tuesday. The quartet will be inducted in Cooperstown on July 21, along with Harold Baines and Lee Smith, selected by a special committee.

Rivera, who played his entire career with the New York Yankees, became the second Panamanian player in Cooperstown, and the first since Rod Carew in 1951.

With his withering cutter fastball, the reliever set the all-time record for saves with 652 in 19 seasons with the New York Yankees, plus an additional 42 in the postseason. His dominance was essential to the Yankees dynasty that won five World Series championships.
Ken Griffey Jr. held the mark for the highest percentage of support with 99.32 percent when he polled 437 of the 440 votes two years ago.
