A man has been arrested in the Italian city of Rimini on suspicion of stabbing four women and a 6-year-old boy with a knife. The suspect is a 26-year-old asylum seeker from Somalia.
The authorities do not assume a terrorist motive. The 6-year-old victim, who was cut in the neck, was seriously injured.
Bus
The knife attack was last night and started in a bus. According to Italian media, the suspect did not have a ticket and attacked two inspectors when they asked for his ticket. The two women were injured, it is unclear how badly.
The man then ran off and outside he allegedly attacked three random people with his knife. One of them was the 6-year-old boy, who was standing in front of a supermarket with his mother. Later, officers arrested the man on the street.
Under the influence
The Somali was possibly intoxicated during the incident. No motive is known yet.
According to Italian media, the 6-year-old victim underwent surgery last night for an arterial hemorrhage. He would now be out of danger, but doctors are still wary, reports news site la Repubblica.
