Four weekends and dozens of concerts – with such a balance, the festival “Riga Jurmala” returns to the lovers of classical music. The Maris Janson Festival Orchestra has been formed for the opening concerts, which consists of musicians from the most prestigious orchestras in Europe, and John Eliot Gardiner at the conductor’s stand.
On the evening of July 16, the orchestra is rehearsing Robert Schuman’s Second Symphony at the Dzintari Concert Hall. It is included in the program, which will open the concert cycle of the festival “Riga Jurmala”. Mozart’s overture to the opera “Don Juan” and the Twentieth Piano Concerto will be performed tonight.
The brightest musicians from orchestras with whom Maestro has worked closely have been invited to participate in the Marisa Janson Festival Orchestra. Among them is the Dutch violinist Mark Daniel van Biemen, who reveals: “When I was addressed about this festival and this collaboration, I immediately said ‘yes’. We have many great orchestras in Europe, but we do not work together in this way. And this is one of the moments when it is possible. In addition, it is a wonderful opportunity to mention Marisa Janson. ”
John Eliot Gardiner, one of the most creative British conductors, will join the conductor’s desk. Yuidja Vana, András Šifts, Miša Maiskis, Mihails Pļetņevs and a number of other internationally recognized stars will participate as soloists in the festival.
Migels Estebans, the associate artistic director of the festival “Riga Jurmala”, says: “Unfortunately, last year the festival had to be canceled. However, we already started inviting musicians to participate this summer. And they immediately said, yes. Many who did not come last year agreed to participate this year. Crazy things happened during the year, because at times it seemed that we would have to cancel the festival again. It was like a roller coaster. But musicians live in the same conditions as everyone else. They understood us, and you see, we are here now. ”
The festival will take place over four weekends. Each of them will feature five concerts and each will feature one of Europe’s leading orchestras. The concerts will take place in Dzintari Concert Hall, the Grand Guild and the Latvian National Opera. But on July 18 and August 27, they will also be shown on LTV and LSM live. The festival will end on September 5.
July 18 Maris Jansons Festival Orchestra Concert will be broadcast live at 19.00 on the public media portal LSM.lv and REplay.lv, listened to – Latvian Radio 3 “Klasika”. Television broadcast – at 22.10 LTV1.
