Four teenage students and a laborer drowned while strolling along a beach in Barangay Sambal Ilaya, Lemery, Batangas on 8 April. The victims, aged between 11 and 18, were walking in the shallow part of the sea when they ventured into deeper water and drowned; one survivor, Danilo Tubal, aged 47, was rescued and has recovered. The Batangas Police Provincial Office has not named the victims. Three of the drowned victims were declared dead upon arrival at Batangas Provincial Hospital, while another two were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The incident happened on Black Saturday.
