Four Swiss advance to second round of qualifying in New York
Golubic, Naef, Waltert and Stricker have a chance of making the main draw for the last Grand Slam of the year. It’s over for Teichmann, In-Albon and Ritschard.

No less than seven Swiss were involved on Tuesday afternoon in qualifying for the US Open Grand Slam tournament in New York (August 28 – September 10). Four passed, three fell.
Viktorija Golubic (29, WTA 136) qualified first for the 2nd round by beating 20-year-old American Mary Stoiana (WTA 577) 6-3 6-4, after 1 hour 33 minutes of play In her next match, the Zurich native will face another American: Sachia Vickery (28, WTA 203). Golubic was imitated a little later by Céline Naef (18 years old, WTA 161) who will also play the 2nd round after her victory against the Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva (23 years old, WTA 201). After a marathon match lasting two hours and 52 minutes, the Schwytzoise won 5-7 6-4 6-4. Finally, Simona Waltert (22 years old, WTA 151), joined her two compatriots by eliminating the German Mona Barthel (33 years old, WTA 251) 6-2 6-4. She will face the German Laura Siegemund (35, WTA 108) in the next round.
Among men, Dominic Stricker (21, ATP 127) also won his ticket to the second round, beating Canadian Alexis Galarneau (24, ATP 207). The Bernese won after just over an hour and a half of the match 3-6 6-2 6-0. His next opponent will be the Spaniard Pablo Llamas Ruiz (20 years old, ATP 146).
It’s over, however, for Jil Teichmann (26, WTA 149), who fell to Croatian Petra Marcinko (17, WTA 178) after 1 hour 14 of the match, 3-6 1-6. And there was only an hour 10 of play for the Valaisanne Ylena In-Albon (24 years old, WTA 158), beaten by the Italian Lucrezia Stefanini (25 years old, WTA 103) 2-6 1-6. On the men’s side, Alexander Ritschard (29, ATP 185) fell to American Brandon Holt (25, ATP 244) after two sets, 1-6 4-6.
Last Swiss registered in these qualifications, Leandro Riedi (21 years old, ATP 150) will start his tournament on Wednesday against the Italian Flavio Cobolli (21 years old, ATP 138).
