Four super jumbos: Former Air France A380s on offer

They flew for the French airline until March, now they are officially waiting for new operators. Four Air France Airbus A380s are on offer.

What will happen to all the phased out Airbus A380s? Lufthansa, for example, sold six of its super jumbos back to Airbus before the Corona crisis. Ex-fleet boss Nico Buchholz recommended in an interview with aeroTELEGRAPHThe manufacturer must now «analyze exactly whether it is worth parking the planes and say: in five years, when the market picks up again, we can sell some.»

The same question arises at Air France. In March 2020, the airline grounded its entire A380 fleet in the wake of the pandemic. In May she announced that the nine four-jet engines are no longer in operation. Five of them were owned by the airline and four were leased.

A380s are delivered with C-Check

The four leased A380s belong to the German aircraft financier Dr. Peters Group. And he has now advertised them publicly. These are the jets with the registration numbers F-HPJJ (built in 2014), F-HPJG (2011), F-HPJE (2010) and F-HPJD (2010), as can be read on the My Air Trade page. All are equipped with Engine Alliance GP7200 engines.

Prices for the aircraft are not mentioned. It is also not mentioned whether they are available for leasing or sale. Given the current difficult market situation, both will be possible. In any case, the Airbus A380s are delivered with fresh C-checks. This involves extensive maintenance that takes place around every two years.

First machines dismantled

The Dr. Peters Group had already decided in 2018 to dismantle two of their A380s that once flew with Singapore Airlines. In the case of the Air France planes, one now obviously hopes to avert this fate.
