Four-star cornerback Kade Phillips flips from Texas to LSU commitment – Crescent City Sports

Persistence has paid off for LSU on the recruiting trail. As a result, the Tigers gained their second pledge this weekend for the 2025 class and the 24th overall.

Four-star cornerback Kade Phillips, originally committed to Texas, flipped to the Purple and Gold on Sunday.

The 6’1″, 175-pound product of Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas, made official visits to both the Longhorns and Tigertown during the weekend of June 21st. He gave a verbal commitment to the Texas coaching staff on July 6th but couldn’t completely dismiss LSU from his final decision. That’s when Corey Raymond and Blake Baker turned up the heat.

Ranked as the 16th best player in Texas and the 3rd best cornerback in the state, Phillips shifted directions and informed Brian Kelly that he wanted to be a Tiger. On3 ranks him as the 16th-rated cornerback in the class. Very athletic, he has the ability to long jump 24′ 7.5″ and has run a wind-aided 21.5-second 200 meters.

Possessing great length, Phillips can turn and locate the ball in flight, is a good open-field tackler, and is very instinctive. He has demonstrated the ability to play either corner or safety and is being hailed as one of the better cover corners to come out of the Greater Houston area in quite some time.

LSU now has 24 commits for 2025, including 3 five-star recruits, 17 four-star recruits, and four others with three stars. The player ratings could rise as the 2024 campaign gets underway.
