The incident took place in a penitentiary in eastern Hungary, the Central Investigative General Prosecutor’s Office told MTI on Friday.
In an official procedure, the Debrecen Regional Investigative Prosecutor’s Office requested the arrest of four prison guards for the crime of group abuse and life-threatening bodily harm.
All four suspects denied committing the crime.
They wrote: on September 25, a middle-aged inmate serving a prison sentence for committing a violent crime against property broke the institution’s rules again, despite warnings. All this was noticed by the supervision and two prison guards, who used physical coercion and handcuffs on the prisoner. According to the well-founded suspicion, after that the supervisors – who were later joined by two of their colleagues – exceeded the limits of the legal measure and hit the man several times.
The beaten inmate was taken to the hospital by ambulance in a life-threatening condition.
