DRACHTEN – Sunday 6 November the time has come. After more than a year of training, Thai, Hung, Jeffrey and Erwin will run the New York Marathon. Then they don’t just do it! They want to raise money for Kika with this. And this goal was not chosen by chance.

More than five years ago, Thai and his wife ended up with their daughter at the doctor, after daughter Evi had complaints. The family doctor did not trust them and sent them to the hospital the same day, after which they were immediately sent back to the Princess Maxima hospital in Utrecht. Unfortunately, Evi turned out to be very ill.

After five months of treatment, there was good news. She and she was clean and healed. To put an end to that troublesome period and give something back to her, Thai decided to run the Berlin marathon with her brother Hung and her best friend Jeffrey. Along the way, they raised more than 15,000 euros.

The adventure didn’t seem complete yet and € 15,000 was far from enough. Signing up for a second marathon was therefore quick. This time their friend Erwin also joined. A few years ago in the school where she works as a teacher, two alumni were not as lucky as Evi and unfortunately they died. They don’t just travel to New York in their minds, their names are printed on her shirt.

The four Drachtsters have been training for over a year now and are ready for it. Run at least three times a week in wind, frost and rain. On Thursday 3 November they will fly to the United States to run the New York Marathon on Sunday 6 November. The largest and most famous marathon in the world.

A year of training and collection was a good task and it didn’t happen alone. They received help from all angles. For example, Drachtster Lyceum and OBS helped de Meander with sponsored walks, which together raised over € 20,000. Their brokers, pubs, pet shops and many other businesses and individuals contributed. Jimmy’s Sports Club and bodyweight physical therapy helped Erwin get back into shape, which he had to start running from scratch.

They are now over € 66,000 and are very close to their target amount: € 70,000 per KiKa. They are very eager to reach this target amount for KiKa. Anyone who may lose a contribution can donate via www.runforkikamarathon.nl/team-evi.
