Four positive corona tests: Holstein Kiel in quarantine | NDR.de – Sport

Status: 03/12/2021 11:43 a.m.

The away game scheduled for tonight by the second division soccer team Holstein Kiel at 1. FC Heidenheim will be canceled. This was announced by the German Football League (DFL) in the morning. Four people tested positive in Schleswig-Holstein.

By order of the responsible health department, the entire team and parts of the functional team must go into quarantine at home. “We have complete confidence in the decisions of the authorities and, as in the past months, of course we fully support them,” said KSV manager Uwe Stöver.

The people affected are doing “well under the circumstances and they have no or only mild symptoms,” explained team doctor Klaus Henningsen: “At the moment, the top priority is to prevent the infection from spreading further.”

Setback in the ascent race

For the “storks” the situation means a severe setback in the close race for a possible promotion to the Bundesliga. Because that means the already tight schedule for the Kielers, who are also in the DFB Cup semi-finals at Borussia Dortmund, is getting tighter. Especially since the game against Hannover 96 on March 19 is also at risk. So the deadline for the current table runner-up could prove to be disadvantageous in the end.

For Holstein it is the second corona quarantine. Almost exactly a year ago, defender Stefan Thesker was one of the first professional footballers to test positive for the virus. A catch-up date for the meeting in Heidenheim has not yet been set.
