In the last few hours, the authorities confirmed a massacre registered in the department of Chocó, exactly in the municipality of Río Quito, a rural area of that department.
According to information from the authorities, this massacre left four people dead, three of whom have not yet been recognized, and work is underway to identify these bodies, which would presumably be identified as members of illegal groups and it would be a settling of scores between these groups.
As it became known, one of the victims was a signatory to the peace agreement, identified as Suil Bejarano. For its part, the Ombudsman’s Office issued an early warning follow-up report to the municipalities of Río Quito, El Cantón de San Pablo and Cértegui. All this, because different illegal groups are currently in territorial and economic disputes, where reference is made to the issue of mining, logging and illegal crops.
Finally, according to figures from the Institute for Development and Peace Studies, Indepaz, 33 massacres have been committed in Colombia so far in 2023.
