Four people to hospital after fire in Askøy

Four people were sent to hospital after a fire in Askøy near Bergen on Monday night.

– they were sent to Haukeland hospital after a fire in an apartment in a residential complex on Florvågbrygge on Askøy, says operations manager Stine Mjelde at the West police district to NRK.

She says that three of the four who were sent to hospital lived in the apartment on the ground floor that burned, while the fourth is a neighbor.

– Everyone was upbeat and conscious when they were sent away in an ambulance, she says to NTB.

The fire was in an apartment on the 1st floor. In total, there will be 36 apartments in the building. All residents were evacuated.

The fire has now been extinguished and should not have spread to other apartments.

– There is a lot of water damage in the apartment in question and the fire brigade is now working on ventilation, Mjelde says.

The police are on the scene together with the fire service and are investigating and questioning witnesses.

– As of now, it is too early to say anything about the cause of the fire, Mjelde says.

The police were notified of the fire at 0115 and Brannvesenet Vest reported that the fire had been extinguished at 0135.
