That appears from new figures from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). “The effectiveness of the vaccines against hospitalization and IC admission has also remained high in recent months,” the institute reports.
1 percent partially vaccinated
The RIVM calculates that 83 percent of the IC patients who were admitted between September 1 and October 3, and whose vaccination status is clear, were unvaccinated. A minority of 16 percent were fully vaccinated and nevertheless ended up seriously ill in the ICU, 1 percent were partially vaccinated.

Of all people who end up in hospital because of corona, almost three quarters (73 percent) were unvaccinated and 2 percent partially vaccinated during the same period. The remaining quarter was fully vaccinated.
Risk of serious illness ‘drasically reduced’
The group of Dutch people who have been vaccinated against the corona virus now amounts to about 80 percent of the population of 12 years and older. According to the RIVM, the figures confirm once again that vaccination drastically reduces the risk of serious illness.

RIVM analyzed the data of 1,369 people who were hospitalized due to a corona infection, 282 of whom were on IC. That’s 91 percent of the total. The institute does not know the vaccination status of the other 9 percent of the recently admitted patients.
More unvaccinated
“Because more and more people are being vaccinated, the proportion of vaccinated people in hospital is also increasing,” RIVM explains. “However, there are still more unvaccinated people in hospital than vaccinated people.”
