The famous director was inspired by Soviet classics.
In the early 1960s, an unusual melodrama about the life of an inhabitant of the underwater depths was released on the screens of the USSR. In the film “Amphibian Man” Gennady Kazansky and Vladimir Chebotarev presented their vision of the hittiandro for the first time, which became canonical for many years to come.
The success of the image tried to repeat itself several times. Walt Disney also dreamed of making a “mermaid” movie, but he was afraid he wouldn’t make it with underwater filming. And in 2004, the premiere of the series “Amphibian Man. Sea Devil”, which failed miserably: the audience noticed the long storyline and poor acting.
The best way to get close to Soviet classics has so far only been in Hollywood. In 2017 Guillermo del Toro made the film The Shape of Water, dedicated to the love story of an amphibian and an ordinary woman. The director called the tape the main filmography image of him and received four Oscars for it.
At the same time, the audience has already noticed that the director was inspired by the Amphibious Man even in small things. At the end of the film, as at the end of the 1961 film, a loving couple tried to organize an escape, he writes PeopleTalk.
