The coronavirus hit hard on Friday at Sampdoria. Among others, four players of the Italian Serie A club have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
Sampdoria reports that it concerns the players Omar Colley, Albin Ekdal, Antonino La Gumina and Morten Thorsby. Thorsby played at sc Heerenveen last season and made the switch to Sampdoria last summer.
Team doctor Amedeo Baldari is also infected with the corona virus. The quintet joins Manolo Gabbiadini, who on Thursday was the first player known to have the virus among members at Sampdoria.
Sampdoria says that they all have mild symptoms and are in good health at their home in Genoa. All other players, staff members and staff involved are in voluntary home isolation.
Rugani first Serie A player with coronavirus
Juventus player Daniele Rugani was the first Serie A player to suffer from the corona virus on Wednesday, after which 121 people voluntarily quarantined at the club in a hotel next to the training complex.
Later on Friday, Fiorentina player Dusan Vlahovic, one of the major revelations at the highest level in Italy this season, was added. That club also took all standard measures into account.
Serie A was shut down until April 3 last week due to the coronavirus outbreak. Italy is the epicenter of the disease in Europe, with currently 17,660 infections and so far 1,266 deaths.
