RENÉ MERKEL
Renè Merkel started in 2015 in the youth of the Hannover Grizzlies. In 2021, the 20-year-old moved to Hamburg for a year with the Huskies in the GFL2, where he was able to record a total of 12 tackles and nine blocked passes as a defensive back in seven games for the Hanseatic League. The trainee wholesale and foreign trade clerk did not have to think long before deciding to move to Braunschweig after head coach Troy Tomlin contacted him. With a size of 1.88 m and a weight of 95 kg, he has the best physical prerequisites to be successful at the highest level in the SharkWater GFL.
MARVIN OMAR GESELLNSETTER
In the case of 19-year-old Marvin Omar Gesellnsetter, there are some parallels to Renè Merkel. The 1.93 m tall and 89 kg high school graduate also began his football career in 2015 in the youth team of the Hannover Grizzlies. First as a running back and later also as a defense back, he went to the Hamburg Huskies in the GFL Juniors in 2020, where he spent the last two seasons. The desire to continue his career at GFL level and the good reputation of the team, the organization and the coaching staff of the New York Lions finally led the defender to Braunschweig for 2022.
MICHEL SANDER
The 20-year-old Michel Sander comes from the junior ranks of the 1.FFC Braunschweig. At the age of 14, the international business and economics student started in the U16 team, followed by the U19 and the Lions II team. In addition, the 1.77 m tall and 79 kg heavy defender had the chance to experience high school in a year in the USA -Collect school football. There has always been a desire to stay in Braunschweig and continue playing American football. With the opportunity to appear in the New York Lions team in 2022, a “childhood dream” comes true, as Michel Sander has already collected autographs and pictures of the lions before.
MATTES FIEDLER
Last but not least, 19-year-old Mattes Fiedler joins the Löwen team. The linebacker, who is 1.86 m tall and weighs 95 kg, comes from the Erfurt Indigos team, for which he has been active for two years in the youth team for one year since 2018. Due to his biology studies at the TU in Braunschweig and the recommendation of his Erfurt trainer, he finally got in touch with the Lions team. His goal in the first year is to learn a lot, get playing time if necessary, but above all to recommend himself for the coming seasons.
