Four more deaths in Freiburg and the district – Freiburg

The health department reports 130 new infections in 24 hours and fears that the numbers will increase.

The health department reported four more deaths in connection with Covid-19 on Wednesday morning – two each in the city of Freiburg and two in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. Since the pandemic began, 96 people who were infected with the corona virus have died in Freiburg. So far 97 deaths have been registered in the district. In addition, the health authority reports 130 new infections – 66 in the city, 64 in the district.

Oliver Kappert, the head of the health department, anticipates that the numbers in the Freiburg area will initially remain at this high level or even increase: “The effects of the lockdown will only be assessed in 10 to 14 days,” he said on Wednesday when asked about BZ: “It really depends on the people supporting the measures and reducing all contacts that are not absolutely necessary.”

The number of deaths has risen in the past few days. Within seven days, 14 people in the city and district died of and with Covid-19. According to health department manager Kappert, the fact that the number is increasing again has to do with the fact that more older people are affected again. “As of Wednesday, of the 29 deaths reported to us since the beginning of November, a total of 23 had died 80 years or older,” said Kappert.
