Very early on January 25, men from the judicial police, the Montauban police station, the Raid and the BRI organized a major raid in several Traveler camps. Four suspects were arrested. They would be involved in the death of a soldier in Montauban on October 29th.
The investigation into the death of soldier Emmanuel Cueff last October in Montauban has just experienced an important turning point this Tuesday, January 25, 2022. A vast crackdown was carried out this morning by the Toulouse judicial police with police officers from Tarn-et -Garonne, supported by police officers from an elite unit of the Raid and the BRI.
The police services arrested four men from the Traveler community in several camps in the region: in Beaumont-de-Lomagne, Lacourt-Saint-Pierre and Fonsorbes. They had been identified for several weeks.
These four men are suspected of being the perpetrators or witnesses of the deadly brawl which took place in the parking lot of the “Le Nautic” restaurant in Montauban on the night of October 29 to 30 and which led to the death of Emmanuel Cueff, a former para of the 17th RGP in his fifties.
“All these arrests have a link with the death of Emmanuel Cueff”, confirmed Anne Gaullier, the public prosecutor of Montauban. Long-awaited arrests by the family of the victim, including the companion of the soldier who was present during this deadly brawl.
This very violent attack had indeed occurred before his eyes, in the parking lot of the restaurant Le Nautic, a restaurant in the city of Ingres. Emmanuel Cueff was then hit in the face and head by several individuals, then his head hit the sidewalk.
The death of the 50-year-old will be pronounced the following Sunday. The autopsy will conclude with “a cerebral hemorrhage consecutive to a cranial traumatism. The death of this former soldier of the local regiment had caused great emotion in Montauban.
It had been several months since individuals had been identified in this case, but being very mobile, it took a few months for the investigators to succeed in locating them precisely. Hence a large police force which was deployed to arrest them on Tuesday.
Searches were carried out in the various camps where these arrests took place. The four individuals were taken into custody to find out what role they precisely played on the night of October 29 to 30, 2021.
