The Vatican or Swiss Guard, which takes care of the pope’s security, was created in 1506 and currently has more than 100 guards on that day.
All four infected members of the guard have the symptoms of the new coronavir and are subject to quarantine, the Vatican said.
Other guards, both on duty and in their spare time, will be required to wear face masks in the future.
According to tradition, the guard serves unmarried Swiss aged 19 to 30 years, who are at least 1.74 meters long and practice Catholicism.
Pope Francis, 83, is known to have a much more informal and personal relationship with the guards.
In the event of a pandemic, the Pope’s state of health is constantly monitored.
