Malaysian National Team in a bad situation in AFF Cup 2020. Several of his players were exposed to the corona virus, including Akhyar Rashid who became the team’s mainstay.
Quoted from New Starits Time, winger Akhyar Rashid was exposed to the corona virus. The player belonging to the Johor Darul Ta’zim club had appeared and scored a goal when Malaysia beat Cambodia 3-1 in the first match of Group B of the 2020 AFF Cup.
Akhyar’s name then disappeared from Malaysia’s line-up against Laos in a 4-0 win. At first, there were many allegations that coach Tan Cheng Hoe kept one of his stars.
Defender Quentin Cheng is also reported to have contracted the corona virus. Akhyar and Quentin Cheng are now on the list of Malaysian players who must be quarantined following goalkeeper Khairulazhan Khalid and striker Faisal Halim.

“Akhyar played well and he was our best player against Cambodia. We hope he recovers quickly and can strengthen the team again,” said Tan Cheng Hoe as quoted by Berita Harian.
This is a big loss for Malaysia because there are four players exposed. The Malayan Tigers, on the one hand, only brought 24 players to the 2020 AFF Cup, although each country is allowed to register 30 players.
Malaysia currently leads Group B with six points. The next two matches are very tough for Malaysia because they are challenging Vietnam and Indonesia.
Safawi Rasid as the temporary top scorer for the 2020 AFF Cup emphasized that he was not afraid of Vietnam and Indonesia. The Malaysian star feels that as long as the players follow the coach’s instructions, everything will run smoothly.
“For me, any team, including Vietnam, Indonesia and Laos, is the same. But we can do something, get good results as long as we follow the coach’s instructions,” said Safawi.
