Human rights organization Amnesty International expressed concern over the detention of reporters in Kandahar and called for their release.
In the Afghan province of Kandahar, law enforcement officers detained four journalists after visiting an area that has been captured by the Taliban. It is reported by ArianaNews on Tuesday, July 27th.
According to the Afghan Interior Ministry, three reporters from Millat Chag radio station and a Xinhua news agency operator visited the Spin Boldak area.
“The journalists were detained for conducting propaganda in favor of the Taliban,” said Mirwais Stanekzai, a spokesman for the ministry.
According to the official, Afghanistan respects freedom of speech, but anyone who propagates “in favor of the enemy and terrorists and against the national interests of Afghanistan is breaking the law.”
Law enforcement officers will investigate the journalists.
