An inland vessel and a ferry collided with each other on the IJ in Amsterdam. Four people were injured in the process. Two of them have been taken to hospital. Police are investigating whether a third ship may have been involved in the accident.
The collision happened around 7 p.m. The ferry was on its way from Amsterdam-Noord to Central Station. Broadcaster AT5 said a passenger from the ferry. “All of a sudden that cargo ship comes sailing in”, 34-year-old Jan Swienink told the broadcaster. “I looked at the foredeck and everyone started screaming. A lot of people fell between the bikes. It was really intense.”
According to the passenger, two people had bloody heads. The victims received help from other people on board. “Everyone was in shock and was shaking on their legs.”
Swienink estimates that there were between forty and fifty people on the ferry. The boat could sail under its own power to Central Station. There the victims were received.
