Mönchengladbach – A sense of achievement for the Gladbach professionals in the service of the Swiss national team. As part of the preparation for the approaching European Football Championship (June 11 to July 11, 2021), the “Nati” won their first test duel (May 30) against the USA in St. Gallen with 2: 1 (1: 1) .

Four Gladbachers are in the Swiss starting line-up
In the ranks of the Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer (32), central defender Nico Elvedi (24), midfielder Denis Zakaria (24) and striker Breel Embolo (24), four Gladbach professionals were involved in the starting line-up.
While summer and Zakaria played through, Elvedi had finished work for the break, Embolo played almost 70 minutes.
The Swiss national coach Vladimir Petković (57) said after the game: “We’re not 100 percent yet. In every sector. You saw that physically too. The legs didn’t go along. We missed some very good opportunities. But we also have to see the positive, the result. “
Steven Zuber from Frankfurt ensured that the result was right. The 29-year-old scored the winning goal in the 63rd minute.
The former Wolfsburg Ricardo Rodriguez (10th) had previously indulged the fast lead of the Americans by Sebastian Lletget (5th) in the initial phase. Shortly before the break, however, Rodriguez shot a hand penalty next to the goal (42nd). Dortmund’s Giovanni Reyna only hit the post for the US team (52nd).
The next test opponent for Switzerland is Liechtenstein
In the preliminary round of the European Championship, the Swiss will meet Wales on June 12th in Baku and Turkey on June 20th. In between there is the game against Italy in Rome on June 16.

Another opponent in preparation is the selection from Liechtenstein on Thursday (June 3), also in St. Gallen.
