Blast experts were called to Sweden after three towns were rocked by four explosions in just over an hour. The incidents come as the country struggles to contain a wave of gang-related violence, AFP reported.
Reports of two explosions in Gothenburg at different addresses, just 10 minutes apart, were received by the police around 1 am local time.
“Both sites have been cordoned off and technical investigations are ongoing,” police said.
The statement added that the national bomb squad had been called to the scene.
“There are no reports of injured people, only material damage,” it said.
An hour later, two more explosions were reported minutes apart in Norsborg, a suburb south of Stockholm, and in Nyköping, about 100 kilometers south of the capital.
In both explosions, there were no casualties or injuries, the police said. All four explosions were in residential buildings.
Sweden has been battling a spate of shootings and bombings in recent years as gangs settle scores fueled by the drug trade.
Police in Gothenburg told AFP it was still too early to speculate on a motive for the two blasts in the city.
In Sweden, there were 90 explosions and another 101 cases of attempted or planned bombings in 2022, according to police data.
109 detonations were registered this year as of August 15.
Bombs are mainly used to intimidate targets, while gunfire is used to kill and eliminate enemies, according to previous police statements.
The country recorded 391 shootings in 2022, 62 of which were fatal, compared to 45 in the previous year, according to police data.
