Four drivers arrested for impaired driving in HRM in 24-hour period

Over the course of 24 hours, RCMP officers in the Halifax Regional Municipality arrested four impaired drivers and suspended the driver’s license of another driver.

On October 5 at approximately 8:15 p.m., an officer from the Halifax Regional RCMP Traffic Section conducted a traffic stop on Knightsridge Dr. in Halifax. The driver, a 33-year-old Halifax man, failed a test using an approved screening device. He was arrested and taken to the Lower Sackville RCMP detachment, where he provided breath samples indicating a blood alcohol level of 110 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and 90 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. .

Later that evening, around 10:15 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a complaint of an impaired driver on Main Street in Dartmouth. An RCMP Southeast Traffic Services officer located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 35-year-old Halifax man, failed a standard sobriety test. A subsequent assessment by a Halifax Regional Police drug recognition expert demonstrated that the man was impaired by drugs.

Approximately an hour later, a member of the RCMP’s Southeast Traffic Services stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 102 in Bedford. The driver, a 29-year-old Halifax man, provided a breath sample using an approved screening device and his blood alcohol level was above the provincial limit of 50 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood . His driving license was suspended for seven days.

On October 6 at approximately 12:40 a.m., a member of the RCMP’s Southeast Traffic Services observed a vehicle traveling in a dangerous manner on Dartmoor Cres. in Bedford, and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 71-year-old man from Upper Hammonds Plains, failed the test using the approved detection device. He was arrested and transported to the Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples showing a blood alcohol level of 90 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

That evening, at approximately 8:10 p.m., an officer from the Halifax Regional RCMP Traffic Section conducted a traffic stop on Baker Dr. in Dartmouth. The driver, a 51-year-old Cole Harbor man, failed a test using an approved screening device. He was arrested and transported to the Cole Harbor RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples of 140 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood and 120 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

All four drivers have been released from custody and will all appear in court at later dates.
