It’s not even the largest subway, the Beijing and Shanghai metro networks are longer. And it’s definitely not as modern as these two. Rotting, you are surprised that no more accidents happen and that the trains arrive reasonably on time. In summer the heat underground is unbearable, in winter the wind whistles through. Spring is the best time to go on the subway. From late morning to three in the afternoon. Or at night. The 6407 cars are nowhere near enough to bring five million passengers to work stress-free during rush hour. Sundays are the worst: Then the tracks are poorly repaired, many trains are canceled. The few that still drive are all the more full. But in which other city do you sit next to Keanu Reeves or do mayors take the subway to City Hall?
