Four Countries Ready to Booster Covid Vaccines, Ignore WHO’s Advice

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

At least four major countries, including Israel and the United States, are preparing to provide vaccine boosters Covid-19 for its citizens, ignoring the advice of the World Health Organization (WHO) to delay the injection of the third dose.

As reported Reuters, the four countries are Israel, the United States, Germany, and France. The four countries will start booster vaccines in the near future to strengthen citizens’ immunity amid the Covid-19 surge.

This decision contradicts the WHO’s call for countries to postpone the injection of the third vaccine until at least the end of September. According to WHO, this delay is important so that there is no inequality in global vaccine distribution.

Israel itself has indeed started a booster campaign for the Covid-19 vaccine since last month. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that his country is still giving the third injection to nearly 60 percent of the 9.3 million population who have received the full dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

When asked about the WHO’s appeal, Bennett said that Israel actually made an important contribution because the world could learn the booster effects of vaccines from what they do now.

“Israel will continue to do things that can contribute greatly to global knowledge,” said Bennett in a live broadcast on Facebook, as quoted by AFP.

Meanwhile, President Emmanuel Macron also emphasized that France will continue to boost the Covid-19 vaccine in September.

Macron explained that the booster injection of this vaccine is given to vulnerable people. According to him, this injection is important to prevent transmission to vulnerable people.

Similarly, Germany will also start the third injection of the Covid-19 vaccine for the elderly. They emphasized that this injection is necessary so that the elderly remain strong amid the threat of the Delta variant of the corona virus.

Germany also refuted WHO’s statement that big countries should help small countries first so they can vaccinate their citizens at least once.

The German Ministry of Health stated that they will also continue to donate at least 30 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to poor countries.

Following in the footsteps of the other three countries, the US also plans to provide a booster for the Covid-19 vaccine in the near future because Uncle Sam’s country has continued to experience a surge in Covid-19 in the past week.

On Thursday (5/8), the US even reported more than 100 thousand cases of Covid-19 in a day. The pandemic adviser to the US president, Anthony Fauci, said a third dose of the vaccine was urgently needed and should be available as soon as possible.
