Four Children Found Alive in Colombia After Surviving Plane Crash in Jungle

Four children from indigenous communities in Colombia found alive and safe in a local forest area after more than five weeks of being stranded after the plane they were traveling in crashed. The children were found in a weak condition after survive alone for dozens of days in the wilderness.

As reported ReutersSaturday (10/6/2023), the children were rescued by Colombian military forces on Friday (9/6) local time near the border between Caqueta Province and Guaviare Province, which is located near the location light plane crash which they ride.

The light Cessna 206 aircraft carrying seven people, including the four children, was flying from Araracuara in Amazonas Province to San Jose del Guaviare in Guaviare Province when it gave an emergency message due to an engine failure on May 1.



Three adults, including the pilot of the plane, died in the crash and their bodies were found in the wreckage. However, four children aged 12 months, 4 years, 9 years and 13 years survived the fatal crash.

President of Colombia Gustavo Petro announced the rescue of the children by the country’s military forces in a statement via Twitter. Photos shared by the Colombian military show a group of soldiers with four children in the middle of a dense jungle.

“Happiness to the whole country! Four children who went missing… in the jungles of Colombia seem to be alive,” Petro wrote in a statement via Twitter.

Petro initially reported that the children had been found on May 17 in a Twitter post, but he later deleted it saying the information was unconfirmed.
