It is a one-of-a-kind project that is about to be born in Chartres: a musical about the history of the city, from its origins to the present day. “A first in France! announce Patrick Gabriel Doussot and Philippe Debaud, who are carrying out this project with Marie-Hélène Brisson and Nicolas Lhoste.
When will we be able to discover this musical?
We will have to wait until 2023 to discover the show being written. In which room? With how many artists? Everything still remains to be decided.

The parents of this “baby” maturing have only two certainties: the title of their show – It’s Chartres, they say! because two Beauceronnes will tell the story of the city – and the quality they want to bring to it.
“We want to alternate theatre, music and dance, confides Patrick Gabriel Doussot, more particularly in charge of the musical part. It’s a local initiative but designed to shine, with rock, pop and French song. It could be presented in big cities like Orléans. We really have the ambition to create a high-level, original show, full of humor and surprises. »
Who are the authors ?
Patrick Gabriel Doussot, whom we meet regularly at the evenings organized by the ChartrEstivales association, in the summer, is the founding father of this Chartres musical in the making. Falling in love with the city in which he settled nine years ago, he very quickly had the idea of combining his taste for history and his passion for music in order to tell the story of Chartres or rather “the little stories that made its history”.
“I collaborated on a friendly basis with many artists and musicians and I had in my drawers, melodies that remained to me. I started talking about the project around me, to Philippe, Marie-Hélène and Nicolas; they were packed. »
Tributes to U2, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones… Chartrestivales returns with a very extensive program
A fine connoisseur of Chartres Cathedral, to which he has dedicated books, Philippe Debaud has immersed himself in the documentation to draw from the prolific history of Chartres, the events that will be mentioned in the show. “We want to focus on explaining 2,000 years of local history through more or less well-known episodes. We will discuss the essential dates but also things that people do not know. It will not be a history book but a kaleidoscope on the different periods of the past. »
On this written framework will be grafted the music of Patrick Gabriel Doussot and songs written by Nicolas Lhoste, cantor of Notre-Dame de Chartres cathedral. Marie-Hélène Brisson, actress and amateur director, will take care of the theatrical part.
How will this musical be financed?
The municipality of Chartres, seduced by the project, has promised to provide a room for rehearsals, but the musical will be financed independently by the association Doux saut de l’ange production, created and chaired by Patrick Gabriel Doussot who launches an appeal: “We hope that partners will be ready to invest in this show. »
Cinema, reading, theatre… Our ideas for outings for young and old during the Easter holidays in Chartres
A show that its creators would like to design with variable geometry, adapting in terms of artists and staging, to more or less large rooms. “We have the will, the energy and the enthusiasm necessary to carry out this project”, concludes Patrick Gabriel Doussot.
