The Czech national soccer team is going into the European championship with four Bundesliga professionals. Coach Jaroslav Silhavy called on Tuesday goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka from relegated Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim right-back Pavel Kaderabek, Hertha midfielder Vladimir Darida and Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick in his initially 25-man squad for the final round (June 11 to July 11) .
Silhavy kept one place free for defender Ondrej Kudela. The 34-year-old from Slavia Prague was banned from playing ten games in all UEFA competitions in mid-April for alleged racist behavior, an appeal is still being negotiated. “Hope dies last, in Ondrej’s case we have to use all possibilities,” said Silhavy.
The Berlin Darida is to lead the European champions from 1976 (as Czechoslovakia) as captain on the field.
