Four bodies recovered in an area outside the Curumaní cemetery

The Search Unit for Missing Persons (UBPD) recovered four bodies that would correspond, according to their structures, to two men, a woman and a subadult, located outside the Santísima Trinidad de Curumaní cemetery, Cesar.

The search efforts of the UBPD in this municipality began in response to requests that reported the disappearance of three people in the context of the armed conflict, events that occurred in 1972. Apparently, they were buried in an end adjacent to what is now the cemetery of this town. With the adaptations and changes that the place has undergone, this area was outside the burial perimeter of the cemetery.

The community of Curumaní alerted the Search Unit given that civil works are underway on the property adjacent to the cemetery. This led to communication with the mayor of the municipality to stop the work while the search continued.

After the alert, the route was drawn to verify the place with the input received from contributors and the geophysical inspection with the forensic expert, finding several points of interest for the search, corroborating the presence of four bodies buried in the place with common characteristics of violence traits. The bodies of a woman and the subadult were found in one place, while a few meters away two male bodies were found. All were delivered to the Institute of Legal Medicine to be analyzed and identified.

According to figures from the Universe of Missing Persons, at least 4,325 people in Cesar were disappeared in the context of the armed conflict, of which 285 search requests have been received.
